Leading With Support

An International Women’s Day Interview with NSP Team Leader Bronwyn Keating

When you think about International Women’s Day, what does “Give to Gain” represent in practice?

For me, “give to gain” means being generous with my time and energy while also prioritizing self-care. It’s about ensuring I have the capacity to support the clients I work with, to be available for my team, and to maintain my own wellbeing and personal relationships.

This approach allows me to gain from meaningful and rewarding interactions, though it can sometimes feel like a balancing act. Ultimately, it’s about giving in a way that is sustainable and enriching for both me and those I support.

What motivates you in your role supporting both your team and the clients they work with?

What motivates me in supporting my team is seeing team members achieve the professional goals they’ve set and thrive in their roles. Having conversations about their accomplishments is uplifting, and being a safe space for them to discuss challenges is equally important.

This approach naturally extends to the clients we work with. Many are navigating challenging and often vulnerable situations, so providing a safe, supportive environment is a crucial part of the role.

What has helped you grow the most in your professional journey?

The opportunity to work with such a wide range of health presentations and diverse populations has been one of the biggest contributors to my professional growth. Each person I interact with brings something new, and that ongoing sense of learning continues to keep the work meaningful. In particular, my years at Navigator provided invaluable experience because of the diversity of the client base.  I would also add that supporting a team of highly skilled professionals has been incredibly rewarding. Seeing the care and dedication they bring to their work, while consistently performing at a high level, has been both inspiring and professionally enriching.

What would you say to other women about the value of contributing their voice, expertise, and leadership to healthcare?

It’s important for women to contribute their voices in healthcare because every one of us brings a unique perspective. Our experiences shape how we understand health and wellbeing. Throughout different stages of life, women experience changing health needs, and having diverse voices represented can help others feel heard, understood and supported. When women bring their expertise and step into leadership roles, they not only influence care and decision-making but also create opportunities to guide and support others who value and benefit from their insight and experiences.
