Early Risk Assessment (ERA)
What is ERA?
Early Risk Assessment (ERA) is a timely, structured response following a workplace or non-work incident to help guide recovery. Delivered by a qualified physiotherapist, the assessment identifies the level of clinical and psychosocial risk, with participants triaged into one of three care pathways. A report is provided to the employer outlining recovery needs and recommendations. Where needed, a follow-up reassessment and case conference ensures ongoing alignment. ERA supports better decision-making, faster intervention and improved recovery outcomes.
Who is ERA for?
ERA is suitable for any individual who has experienced a recent incident or injury, regardless of whether it occurred at work. It is designed for use before a claim is lodged, or in the early stages of a claim, to support informed decision-making and early recovery planning.
How does ERA work?
Once referred, participants are assessed by a physiotherapist and screened for both clinical and psychosocial risk factors.
Based on the assessment, individuals are triaged into one of three tailored recovery pathways.
A detailed report is shared with the employer to outline risk level, recovery considerations and suggested next steps.
If required, a follow-up assessment is completed and an updated report is provided.
A collaborative discussion may be held with the employer, treating parties and Navigator to review recommendations.
Why Choose ERA?
ERA provides a fast and consistent way to assess injury risk and plan recovery. By identifying both physical and psychosocial barriers early, the program helps prevent delays, reduce unnecessary treatment and avoid claim escalation. It improves communication between all parties and supports a safer, more confident return to work through timely, tailored recommendations.
